INFORMATION FOR POTENTIAL ABCS STUDENTS

Dear Potential ABC School Student,

Thanks for your inquiry. The prerequisites for the Addictive Behavior Counseling School (ABCS) are attending the Discipleship Training School (DTS) and DTS Outreach and a basic University of the Nations basic counseling school like the Introduction to Biblical Counseling (IBC), or the Community Counseling School (CCS), or the Family Ministry School (FMS), Children In Need (CIN) and outreaches or have had clinical counseling experience. You then may get more information from various web pages: noted among the list of "Future ABCS" attached. You may obtain applications from the specific ABCS you would like to apply to. Some reduction in fees or scholarships may be available for individuals from developing countries. I will also include copies of some of our previous ABCS curriculums. After successfully completing the above prerequisites and the ABCS and outreach then you may obtain certification as a "Certified Addiction Counselor I" (basic level) granted by the University of the Nations. If you have further questions please feel free to contact us by E-mail at DarvSmithMD@msn.com

The main skills taught in the ABCS are: understanding and leading support and process groups (Basic Psychotherapy Groups), addiction counseling skills and trauma recovery. While learning these skills each student is expected to work on their personal issues of recovery from childhood trauma, addictions, or other problems. Our focus is to train counselors who then may train others or work in a recovery type of mercy ministry. The school is not for individuals that primarily need therapy for personal issues.

Respectfully submitted,
Darv & Carol Smith, Founders of ABC Schools in 1989
